Chinese Phrases for Travelers |
Introduction
Standard Mandarin (Putonghua) is the official language of China, although there are many dialects in the country. Mainland China uses the Simplified Chinese characters, whereas Hong Kong, Taiwan, and many overseas Chinese use the Traditional Chinese characters. This site uses the Simplified Chinese characters and Pinyin, romanization of Standard Mandarin. Many of the English translations aren't exactly literal. They give the meaning of the whole sentence in a natural way. When you click on the speaker icons , you'll hear the pronunciation. Hello! The voice model is Dong Ying, who is a lovely Chinese woman from the Shanxi Province of China. You may need to adjust the volume of your computer's speaker. If you have intentionally disabled JavaScript on your browser, you will be unable to hear the pronunciation. The English translations were checked and corrected by Elder Nielsen and Elder Baker.
